Longer than the contract was worth

The audit took longer than the contract was worth. That is the entire point of the audit.

Power generation is the least forgiving qualification process we go through anywhere in the world. It reaches straight past the product and into the process behind it. How is the felt actually made. How are batches tracked. What does the laboratory test, and how often, and who decides. What happens to a batch that fails. And — the question that most audits eventually come down to — who has the authority to stop a shipment that is already late.

It is slow, and there is no legitimate way to make it faster, because not being shortenable is the whole reason it exists.

We passed it in 2023 at Rosslyn, where we run the largest non-woven needle felt production in South Africa.

What that approval certifies is not really a filter bag at all. It certifies the six stages that sit between raw material and post-installation performance data: raw material inspection and batch tracking, in-process and finished-goods quality checks, production-line e-documentation, IoT and SMART controls, installation records, and the performance data that comes back from the plant afterwards.

That same chain runs at Indore. It is not a separate system for a separate market.

And this is the part that tends to matter more than anything else in a tender, even though it rarely gets written down. It is why a procurement manager can defend the decision to their own management if something goes wrong later. Whatever else is being discussed in the room, that is what they are actually buying.
